Hogmanay in Edinburgh

The worst thing about New Year is that it’s over and done in one night. The best thing, therefore, about New Year – or should we say Hogmanay – in Edinburgh is that the festival lasts 3 days.

Traditionally starting with a torchlight procession there are 3 days of celebrations culminating in New Year’s Day events including the Loony Dook swim. Find out all the deets on the best of what’s going on right here.

There are celebrations all over Edinburgh for Hogmanay, but the biggest of the lot are the street party, which are on our doorstep, and the concerts in Princes Street Gardens. Fireworks

As the official Hogmanay site says, ‘why welcome 2017 with just one firework display when you can have FOUR spectacular displays in one night’. Hear, hear! On the hour every hour, from 9pm until the ‘midnight moment’, the skies will be ablaze with colour from the fireworks set off at Edinburgh Castle and Calton Hill. As the clock strikes midnight remember to join hands ready to sing ‘auld lang syne’.
